About Us
The Capel Sound Community Hub, previously known as the Seawinds Community Hub, is an independent not-for-profit centre focused on building a strong and supportive local community. We have been part of the community since the early 2000s, originally emerging from the state-initiated Rosebud West community renewal project.
With its roots firmly in the Neighbourhood House movement, the Capel Sound Community Hub reflects the suburb name change and the growth of the local community over time. It has evolved into an important gathering place, offering diverse services and programs that support people from early years through to lifelong learning.
Thanks to a collaboration between the state government and the Mornington Peninsula Shire, the Community Hub is a busy purpose-built facility. The site offers meaningful community programs, an early learning centre, community cafe, room hire, men’s shed and a range of support services.
As a modern, volunteer-governed centre, we welcome and support people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Our aim is to help people grow, connect, and thrive within their community.
Our History
Capel Sound Community Hub in Capel Sound grew out of the work to support families and build pride in what was then known as Rosebud West. In the late 2000s the state-funded Rosebud West Community Renewal project began strengthening local services and identity, with the Community Hub emerging as a key gathering place and service provider for the neighbourhood.
For many years the hub operated as Rosebud West Community Hub / Seawinds Community Hub at 11A Allambi Avenue, bringing together early learning programs, community activities, a men’s shed and support services on one site.
our network
When the suburb’s name officially changed from Rosebud West to Capel Sound in 2016, the hub evolved with it, eventually adopting the Seawinds Community Hub branding to reflect its place in the newly named community. A major redevelopment led by Mornington Peninsula Shire delivered a modern, purpose-built facility, officially opened in May 2023.
Today Capel Sound Community Hub is a not-for-profit, volunteer-governed centre offering early learning, community programs, a café, room hire and support services for residents “from babies through to older members of the community”, and continues to be one of the key community anchors in Capel Sound.
