At Capel Sound Community Hub, our purpose is Powering Social Connection – creating opportunities for people to come together, participate, contribute and feel part of something.
One of the most meaningful outcomes of our Garden Project is already showing us exactly what that can look like.
As our Garden has taken shape, so too has a dedicated Garden Volunteer group. What has begun as a new space for our community has created an opportunity for people to meet, share skills, get their hands dirty and work towards something together and it’s only just the beginning.
Our volunteers are now actively caring for our Garden, planting fresh produce and helping shape what the space will become. Their involvement is about much more than maintaining garden beds. It creates connection, belonging and a sense of shared ownership.
Importantly, this group is also part of the future sustainability of our Garden. A garden can be built, but it’s the people who care for it, contribute their time and ideas, and help shape its future who will ensure it continues to thrive.
As our Garden grows, we hope the connections around it will grow too – creating opportunities to learn and share, support food security, gather and connect generations and bring fresh produce into other areas of the Hub and wider community.
It’s a simple but powerful example of our purpose in action: when we create spaces for people to contribute, we create opportunities for connection.
And sometimes, that connection starts with something as simple as planting together.
